My Supported Charities for the Run Across Australia
For my Run Across Australia adventure I will be supporting the following charities
The 401 Foundation was set up by Ben Smith to support small grass root projects, and individuals to build confidence and self-esteem, tackle mental health and self-development issues. Having met, received invaluable advice and then ran many hours with the ultra-athlete and founder of the 401 Foundation, Ben Smith, I truly believe in The 401 Foundation’s mission and have been proud to support them on previous adventures
Cornerstone are an organisation who are working to help people unfortunate to have to sleep rough on the streets in South Wales to find housing and then, through training and support, help them to stop having to rely on benefits and support themselves. I have been working with Cornerstone, as part of my property business, to house some of the people that they are supporting and have seen first hand the benefits of the work that they do.
Having grown up in Australia The Royal Flying Doctors Service was something I have always been aware of. They are one of the largest and most comprehensive aeromedical organisations in the world, providing extensive primary health care and 24-hour emergency service to people over an area of 7.69 million square kilometres. What they do is amazing and is so very important to the isolated communities in Australia. I hope that I don’t have to call on their services while I’m running but feel safer in the knowledge that they are there if needed.
When I run I want to provide help and assistance to local communities. When I ran around Ireland I want any money I raised in the Republic of Ireland to have the most impact locally. I was introduced to Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) through another ultra-runner and local Irish athlete, Shane Finn. Having followed Shane on his 24 in 24 and American Ultra 2019 challenges I saw how SBHI was supporting the SBH community in Ireland and wanted to help.
As part of my Run Across Australia I will hoping to have schools from all over Ireland involved in the Love Running Adventures Schools Programme and will be keeping my support of this amazing charity going
