I know that I run better when I’m running towards something … so I’m setting my next DUMBER goal!

DUMBER being the acronym for …

Daft

Unconventional

Mental

Bonkers

Exciting

Ridiculous

(thank you Simon @successengineers for this acronym).

I’ve been in the fitness industry since I was 19 and I was always taught to use the acronym SMARTER for goal setting – Specific, Meaningful, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound, Evaluate and Readjust.  All very sound, but it just doesn’t quite fit me or the way I want to encourage and inspire others to go Chasing Extraordinary.

So a DUMBER goal it is then!!

And for my next DUMBER goal I’m …. going to run around Ireland.

Now there is a little bit of a logical step behind it.

Since the start of the year my mileage has been ticking over in a virtual challenge @run_around_europe . So far this year I’ve ran 394 miles.

I’m currently virtually cruising towards Edinburgh and I should be ready to cross the Irish Sea by June.

Now one of my huge DUMBER goals is to run around the world.

Last year my #63in63 adventure saw me run through Scotland, England and Wales.

So I figured if I’m due to virtually run Ireland why not actually run Ireland.  See … logical.

I learnt many things from my 63 marathons last year, one being that people are interested in the process as well as the adventure, so I’m going to do my best to share how I get from where I am right here and now to being able to run approximately 600 miles in 23 days (or there abouts).

Today’s training:

  • 5km wake up walk (I’m really not a morning person).
  • 10 x 1 min Hard Run / 1 min Easy Jog. It was windy, freezing, muddy and slushy and did I mention windy – but I got it done.
  • Workout of the Week – Kettlebell swing, KB snatch & press, V-sit up with a medicine ball, Push ups.
    Done in a circuit – 4 rounds of 20secs work/10secs recovery

So there ‘tis … 2018’s big DUMBER goal!

I’d love for you to follow me, cheer me on or perhaps even join me.  I’ll be sharing more details of this adventure on here, Instagram, Strava and Youtube, so if you don’t follow me at those places, please do.

As well as sharing how I train, I’ll also be sharing how I get my mind focused so that Impossible becomes I’M POSSIBLE!

I wanna share because I really wanna watch you go Chasing Extraordinary toooooo.

YAY, it’s gonna be a doozy!
